Brief Review Epinephrine and the Genesis of Hypertension

چکیده

Several lines of evidence suggest a psychophysiological link between stress, adrenomedullary activation, and the genesis of hypertension. Experimental data support four important concepts: 1) epinephrine stimulates prejunctional ft-adrenergic receptors that facilitate norepinephrine release from sympathetic nerve endings; 2) epinephrine can be converted into a cotransmitter by neuronal uptake and on subsequent release augment the simultaneous discharge of norepinephrine; 3) exogenous epinephrine can induce sustained hypertension in rats; and 4) there is a period of critical sensitivity to endogenous epinephrine in a genetic model of rat hypertension. Plasma epinephrine concentrations are elevated in many young subjects with borderline or mild hypertension. The hypothesis that intermittent surges in epinephrine could initiate or promote the development of primary hypertension by amplifying peripheral neurotransmission, both directly (facilitative effect) and indirectly (cotransmitter action), is supported by reports that hemodynamic and noradrenergic responses to sympathetic activation can be augmented by increases in endogenous epinephrine or by its local or systemic (up to 30 ng/kg/min) infusion. Such responses have been documented in both normotensive and hypertensive subjects and can be blocked by propranolol. Although the weight of evidence (mostly indirect) indicates that epinephrine can augment norepinephrine release in humans, the epinephrine hypothesis, itself, remains unproven. Expression of hypertension by this mechanism may be restricted to a specific epinephrine-sensitive subset of individuals with a genetic predisposition to high blood pressure. Validity of self-reported hypertension in Mashhad population: brief report

Background: Researchers and health specialists are increasingly obtaining information on chronic illnesses from self-reports. This study validates self-reports of hypertension, based on a recently fielded survey in Mashhad City, Iran. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we used the results of 2015 census in Mashhad City, a population based survey of people over the age of 30 (n=300745) to ...

Epinephrine increases mortality after brief asphyxial cardiac arrest in an in vivo rat model.

Epinephrine may be detrimental in cardiac arrest. In this laboratory study we sought to characterize the effect of epinephrine and concomitant calcium channel blockade on postresuscitation myocardial performance after brief asphyxial cardiac arrest. Anesthesized rats were disconnected from mechanical ventilation, resulting in cardiac arrest. Resuscitation was attempted after 1 min with mechanic...

Role of basal stress hormones and amygdala dimensions in stress coping strategies of male rhesus monkeys in response to a hazard-reward conflict

Objective(s): In the present study the effect of stress on monkeys that had learned to retrieve food from a five-chamber receptacle, as well as the relationship between their behavior and the serum cortisol and epinephrine levels and relative size of the amygdala was evaluated. Materials and Methods: Six male rhesus monkeys were individually given access to the food reward orderly. They could e...

Role of the 1D-Adrenegric Receptor in the Development of Salt-Induced Hypertension

In an attempt to elucidate whether there is a specific 1-adrenergic receptor ( 1-AR) subtype involved in the genesis or maintenance of hypertension, the 1D-AR subtype was evaluated in a model of salt-induced hypertension. The 1D-AR–deficient ( 1D / ) and control ( 1D / ) mice (n 8 to 14 in each group) were submitted to subtotal nephrectomy and given 1% saline as drinking water for 35 days. Bloo...
